Kingfishr presents “How Lonely” – emotional new folk-pop and a growing audience outside Ireland

The Irish trio Kingfishr, based in Limerick, consolidate their international success with the fresh single “How Lonely”. The track, named BBC 1 Hottest Record and released via B-Unique/Atlantic Records, reflects the band’s signature sensitive and modern folk-pop style. With the release, the group has also published an official lyric video, highlighting their focus on storytelling and building a direct connection with the audience.

The production is helmed by David Curley and Max Wolfgang, further enhancing Kingfishr’s organic sound: acoustic, rhythmically refined arrangements, cinematic dynamics, and a clear sense of togetherness. “How Lonely” builds on the singles “The Sun Will Never Settle”, “The Blade”, and “For The Boys”, all released earlier in 2026 and broadening the band’s reach. Live, “How Lonely” has already received a strong response and has been performed frequently during this year’s major tour. Eddie Keogh, one of Kingfishr’s three members, elaborates on the song’s theme: “It’s funny – being in a band doesn’t seem to make it any easier to find love. But still we keep trying.” The vulnerability and perseverance present in the lyrics and music have become a recurring theme, allowing the band to reach a broad and diverse audience.

Following their breakthrough in 2025, Kingfishr have had an intense 2026 with a constantly growing stage presence and relatively rapid transitions from small venues to larger arenas across Europe. At the same time, they have begun work on a new album, aiming for a 2027 release, where they explore the band’s folk-based sound in new directions.

At the end of 2026, Kingfishr are embarking on a nearly sold-out European tour with 16 dates, culminating in a highly anticipated final performance on December 7 in Utrecht. Looking ahead to summer 2027, several major outdoor concerts await, including in Belfast, Marlay Park in Dublin, and two hometown shows at Thomond Park Stadium in Limerick. These tours mark the band’s journey from songwriting around the kitchen table in Limerick to now taking the stage before thousands of spectators.
