Tove Styrke releases dreamy single and unveils concept album "I thought this story wasn’t about me"

The Swedish songwriter and singer Tove Styrke continues to develop her unique expression within alternative pop with the new single "Me/You (always and forever)". The song is infused with dreamy soundscapes and 80s-inspired new wave tones, marking the final single ahead of Styrke's eagerly awaited album I thought this story wasn’t about me, which will be released on November 6, 2026.

In the single, Styrke explores themes such as self-reflection and the relationship we have with ourselves. Both lyrics and production create a sense of loneliness and contemplation—a person standing in front of a mirror late at night, in the middle of a party, observing the bond with their own self. Styrke describes the song as an attempt to capture the contradiction of being both one's harshest critic and only safe haven, summarized already in the song's opening line: “I got you every night and day, now it seems you’re a problem, babe.” Themes of isolation and longing for belonging thus form the backbone of the upcoming album as well.

A cinematic album born out of solitude

The upcoming I thought this story wasn’t about me breaks from pop album conventions and was born during quiet moments on Styrke's rooftop terrace in the spring of 2024. The album has been assembled piece by piece, strongly inspired by cinematic storytelling, including the works of David Lynch. Styrke herself describes the album more as a soundtrack to an indie film than a typical pop record, and the song order follows an emotional drama over the course of one afterparty—from dusk till dawn. She has co-produced the album together with Magnus Larsson, Joel Kiviaho (drummer and producer), as well as songwriter Linnea Martinsson.

Listeners have already gotten a taste of the new sound through previous singles: "Prayer", "Space", "Let’s Go Camping", "Song and Dance Man", and "Sunflower". Each song contributes its own perspective to the late-night room Styrke wants to give voice to—a place where loneliness and togetherness coexist, and where insights are born in the silence between songs.

The full-length album consists of 16 tracks, and "Me/You (always and forever)" forms one of its focal points. The artistic approach and strong thematic thread mark a major step forward for Styrke, who describes the album creation as a puzzle where the whole reflects the feeling of loneliness even among others—in the house or at the party. The emotional environment is characterized by both a longing for community and the distance that marks our times.

In addition to her solo project, Styrke has this year established the Swedish prog group Året Var together with Sanna Sikborn Erixon. The group debuted with an EP in May and followed up with an album in September, while also preparing for a tour in December. Styrke will also do her only Swedish solo show of the year on November 20, 2026 at Värmeverket in Stockholm, giving fans a rare chance to experience new songs live.

With four critically acclaimed albums behind her—the most recent being HARD (2022)—Tove Styrke has accumulated over a billion streams. Her list of collaborators includes names such as Clean Bandit, RITUAL, ALMA, and Cosmo’s Midnight. In the spring of 2024, she also ventured onto the theater stage by playing the lead role in the Stockholm production of David Bowie's musical Lazarus.
