Johannes Räihä releases the deeply personal single "Lilla blå" – A new chapter inspired by fatherhood

With the release of "Lilla blå" in 2024, Johannes Räihä marks a new and impactful chapter in his career—a style that is both personal and universal. The single is the first taste of an upcoming album and showcases Räihä's artistic maturity and his ability to document life's emotional landscape with unsentimental honesty.

"Lilla blå" is named after and inspired by Räihä's newborn son, especially his son's characteristically blue eyes. However, the song is more than a heartfelt tribute to a child; it also contains a broader homage to family and the unpredictable paths of parenthood. Räihä, known in the Swedish music scene for peeling away the everyday and revealing both its beauty and its darkness, weaves joy and worry into the same breath. The track is a declaration of love to his life partner and the everyday chaos that now characterizes their home, and is marked by a strong hope that his son will inherit the best from his mother. At the same time, Räihä acknowledges the feeling of anxiety: that his own darkness could be passed down to the next generation.

Räihä's songwriting and vivid storytelling have long invited the listener into his world—whether he is dissecting heartbreak, existential uncertainty, or looking back on past victories. This is also reflected in his other works; everything from childhood memories to nightly confessions at local bars. In 2024, Räihä also succeeded with "Brustna hjärtan två", his reinterpretation of The Cardigans' "Communication", which SVT's Tali da Silva especially noted for its new perspective. Da Silva highlighted how Räihä puts words to the difficulty of expressing deep emotions, something that takes on new forms now that he has become a father.

The years leading up to "Lilla blå" have been turbulent for Johannes Räihä. After the EP "För fattig för en dröm" (2023), praised by both GAFFA and Nöjesguiden, he chose to step back from the limelight. During this period, Räihä became a father of two and was forced to spend a week in hospital due to heart problems—a serious interruption that nonetheless did not extinguish his creative spark. He himself describes family life as chaotic but rewarding: a world filled with dogs, cats, washing machines, and constant activity. Amid this din, melodies and lyrics continued to take shape, laying the foundation for his new songwriting.

Behind "Lilla blå" and the upcoming album, in addition to Räihä himself, are also significant musical collaborators. Norbert Lukacs (known, among other things, for work with Hanna Järver and Llojd) and Theo Stocks (connected to Thomas Stenström and Sarah Klang) help shape both the storytelling and the soundscape.

Since his debut with "Sjöarna i Idaho" in 2018, Johannes Räihä has built a strong name in Swedish music. His songs have been featured by SVT Babel, Svenska Dagbladet, GAFFA, Nöjesguiden, and HYMN, and have received regular rotation on Sveriges Radio channels P3 and P4. Alongside artists such as Hanna Järver and Linus Hasselberg, Räihä has further strengthened his position in the creative music landscape.
