Lande Hekt Steers Confidently Through Indie Pop on New Album ‘Lucky Now’
With the new album Lucky Now, Lande Hekt consolidates her position as one of Britain’s most admired underground songwriters. Following the autobiographical albums Going To Hell (2021) and House Without a View (2022), where Hekt addressed themes like queer identity, sobriety, and childhood trauma, there is now a noticeable maturity and clear self-awareness taking her music in a more confident direction.
The album is created together with producer Matthew Simms, known from groups such as Wire and It Hugs Back, marking Hekt’s most polished and self-assured work to date. While the earlier albums depicted a journey of self-discovery, Lucky Now is more about being grounded in oneself and anchoring her creative process in authenticity. Hekt herself emphasizes that the focus has shifted from her own self-image to now writing songs built upon her real values and emotional life.
Refined Influences and New Inspiration
On Lucky Now, Hekt continues to draw on her love for bands like The Wedding Present, The Sundays, and The Replacements, while also bringing in even more influences. The album’s sound is distinctly colored by 1980s twee- and jangle pop, with references to The Pastels, Tallulah Gosh, and The Bats, as well as contemporary acts such as The Cords and Jeanines. The result is songs with sparkling guitars, joyful melodies, and arrangements that increase the intimacy with often explicitly personal lyrics.
There are still traces of pain and anxiety, but Lucky Now is also greatly about actively seeking gratitude. Hekt moves between vulnerability and strength, with the most euphoric moments balanced by lyrics that do not shy away from darker topics. The single "Circles" is a clear example: here, winding jangle-pop guitars and an infectious chorus are combined with a raw depiction of anxiety and introspection, showcasing Hekt’s talent for making emotional complexity accessible without sacrificing honesty.
After strong reviews for her previous releases and opening for acts such as Alvvays, Throwing Muses, and The Beths, Hekt now demonstrates clear artistic maturity. For both indie pop connoisseurs and those searching for an honest, personal voice, Lucky Now offers much to discover.
This fall, Hekt will meet the European audience with her new songs. The 2026 tour includes the following dates and cities:
