Egokills presents hypnotic single “Dead Flowers” ahead of upcoming album “Brainbanger”
This year marks a significant milestone for the Finnish alternative metal band Egokills, celebrating their 15th anniversary. With many years of musical development behind them, the group now steps into a new era with the announcement of their upcoming album, “Brainbanger”, set for release via Mellowhead Creations Oy on October 2, 2026. The project has already garnered attention with the launch of its hypnotic third single, “Dead Flowers.”
According to drummer Vilho Rajala, “Dead Flowers” represents the album’s more hypnotic and darkly atmospheric side. Rajala describes the single as “epic,” and it continues to set the tone for what to expect from “Brainbanger.” The track follows two previously released singles: “Knuckle Choke” and “Shine & Glow,” each offering different facets of Egokills’ forthcoming soundscape.
Work on “Brainbanger” began in 2024 and reflects a period of both reconsideration and strength within the band. The album is produced by Juha Nevala, who has also worked with bands such as Somehow Jo and Huora, at the Lammaskallion Audio studio in Tuusula. The band drew inspiration from the rural calm of the studio, with guitarist Niko Viita-aho highlighting the opportunity to focus on creation undisturbed.
In the years leading up to this release, Egokills has also undergone a lineup change, returning to being a quartet. Notably, frontman Janne Selo has returned to the guitar while continuing as lead vocalist, rejuvenating the creative process and marking a new musical era for the group. Selo’s return to the guitar brought new energy to songwriting and quickly resulted in fresh material.
The road to “Brainbanger” has not been without challenges. Band members have faced personal losses and several ordeals, especially over the past year. Despite this, difficult moments have led to renewal and a forward-looking optimism that has given new drive to both the band and its creative vision.
The tracklist for “Brainbanger” is as follows:
- Brainbanger
- Shine & Glow
- Swan
- Rat King
- Knuckle Choke
- Transition
- Dead Flowers
- Light So Pale
Egokills, consisting of Janne Selo (vocals, guitar), Niko Viita-aho (guitar), Mika Pusa (bass), and Vilho Rajala (drums), continues to develop their distinctive sound within alternative metal, where power and atmosphere go hand in hand. With “Brainbanger,” the band promises their heaviest and rawest expression yet, and 2026 looks set to be a decisive year for Egokills and their growing influence within Finnish rock.
