Stevie Wonder brought his anniversary tour for Songs in the Key of Life to Royal Arena in Copenhagen on October 18, 2026, performing the entire album from 1976. The sold-out concert was the tour's third stop and marked 50 years since the album's release.

According to the organizer's press update, the audience stood to welcome Wonder and reacted especially strongly to “Sir Duke” and “I Wish,” as fans danced around the arena. Concertgoers included listeners from several generations: parents arrived with teenage children, sisters shared the evening, and groups of friends gathered to see the performance. That the songs cross generational boundaries was a recurring theme in the organizer's description of the concert.

A Performance with Audience Participation

During “Knocks Me Off My Feet,” Wonder improvised vocal phrases and invited the audience to sing back. According to the press material, the audience held the notes and followed his rhythm through each phrase. The interplay made the audience part of the actual performance, rather than the song being just a one-way presentation from the stage to the hall.

“If It’s Magic” offered a different kind of musical focus, with harpist Brandee Younger accompanying Wonder. Greg Phillinganes served as musical director and keyboardist. The press material highlighted that Phillinganes also participated on Songs in the Key of Life, tying the anniversary concert to the album’s recording history.

The 22-song concert followed the album’s order, starting with “Love’s in Need of Love Today” and moving through, among others, “Village Ghetto Land,” “Contusion,” “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” and “Pastime Paradise.” “Ebony Eyes” was played before the intermission. The concert then continued with “Isn’t She Lovely,” “Joy Inside My Tears,” and “Black Man.” The set proceeded with “If It’s Magic,” “As,” and “Another Star/Happy Birthday.”

Before the finale, Wonder let the audience choose between three songs. The Copenhagen audience chose “Superstition,” which closed the concert. The selection gave the audience a direct role in shaping the evening's final moments.

The Album’s Anniversary and Legacy

Songs in the Key of Life was released in 1976 and earned Wonder his third of three Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, according to the accompanying press material. The album has since received diamond certification and was added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. On the anniversary tour, the entire album is at the heart of the live performance, with the songs presented both as a cohesive work and as a collection of individual classics.

The tour is organized by Live Nation and produced by Wonder Productions, Inc. It travels through Europe and the United States and is scheduled to conclude in Los Angeles on December 19, 2026, according to available information. In Copenhagen, the complete album performance, audience participation, and the audience-picked closing number combined to honor both the album’s history and its continued place in live music.
