Madra Salach to Lille VEGA with Debut Album Gorta on the Way

15. oktober 2026

The Irish folk band Madra Salach will play at Lille VEGA in Copenhagen on Friday, February 5 at 21:00. The concert is organized by VEGA and smash!bang!pow! and brings the band's experimental approach to traditional music to Enghavevej 40, 1674 København V.

The band's sound encompasses synths, ambient tones, heavy drones, distortion, and crackling electronica. Frontman Paul Banks contributes powerful and expressive vocals, while the concerts unite Irish folklore and mystique with subtle humor.

The debut album Gorta will be released on January 15 on Island Records. The theme is heritage: what people carry with them from previous generations. The record is rooted in Irish folk music and stretches toward darker, more experimental contemporary expressions.

The band has supported Fontaines D.C. and performed at major festivals. Their show at Roskilde Festival received five stars from GAFFA, which described the lunchtime concert as "a mix of cheerful joking and deeply serious, melancholic music, which is a fundamental part of the folk music tradition in the British Isles."

The debut EP It’s a Hell of an Age, released in 2026, topped the Irish Independent Album Chart. The repertoire includes "Ribbon Factory" and a reinterpretation of the traditional song "Spancil Hill."

Tickets cost 220 Danish kroner plus booking fee. Sales open on Friday, October 23 at 11:00 via vega.dk, sbp.dk, and Billetlugen.
