Amon Amarth releases new album "The Allfather Awakens" and announces European tour with Swedish dates in autumn 2026

With today’s release of the highly anticipated album "The Allfather Awakens" via Metal Blade Records, Swedish band Amon Amarth once again confirms their position at the forefront of melodic death metal. The ten-track record, the band’s latest work, marks the start of a new era while strengthening the group’s distinctive musical legacy.

After three decades on stage, it is clear that Amon Amarth operates as a tight unit, where loyalty and a common purpose are expressed both in their sound and on stage. This sense of community permeates "The Allfather Awakens" – songwriting and delivery are as uncompromising as ever.

Epic storytelling and new musical paths

Amon Amarth has long drawn inspiration from Norse mythology, especially the enigmatic Odin – allfather, war god, guardian of wisdom, and poet. Odin once again features in the album’s themes, but "The Allfather Awakens" is not a concept album; instead, it offers a collection of historically inspired, epic portrayals of battles and sacrifices for something greater.

The album also marks a departure from the band's previous output, as they for the first time introduce acoustic elements on the track "Upphaf." The song, with the gravity of storytelling in Odin’s shadow, adds an unexpected dimension to the band’s well-known heaviness.

Among the singles already released are "Gjallarhorn" and "Eight Legs of Thunder," carrying the familiar, relentless power and melodic skill that faithful fans can expect. The album’s focal track, "The Allfather Awakes," summarizes the theme: according to vocalist and lyricist Johan Hegg, it is about letting wisdom, knowledge, and facts guide the way towards the future.

The work on "The Allfather Awakens" was characterized by innovation, with songwriting beginning already during the tour. The recordings themselves were completed in two stages at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark, where the band spent several months refining their ideas with fresh perspective and renewed energy.

The album is released exclusively through Sound Pollution – giving fans and collectors a unique and closer connection to the band’s latest creation.

European tour and a new grand stage show

Right after the album release, Amon Amarth embarks on a major European tour, kicking off as soon as next week. The upcoming concerts will offer not only new material but also a completely new stage show. With visual inspiration from Odin’s mythical golden hall, the live performance will be an extension of "The Allfather Awakens," further amplifying the epic atmosphere.

Swedish fans will have the chance to experience this show at two major arenas:

  • 23 October 2026: Scandinavium, Gothenburg
  • 24 October 2026: Hovet, Stockholm

In conjunction with the album release, there will also be an exclusive signing at Sound Pollution in Stockholm, Friday 2 October 2026, starting at 5:00 p.m.

With "The Allfather Awakens," Amon Amarth not only preserves their Norse mythology and metal tradition heritage, but also breaks new ground. As the band brings this new chapter to Europe's stages, an experience filled with raw power, melody, and mythological grandeur awaits both loyal followers and new listeners.
