Royal Sorrow ushers in a new era with “Covert” – single release and European tour in autumn 2026

Royal Sorrow, one of the fastest rising bands on the international progressive metal scene, is opening a new chapter in their artistic development with the release of the single “Covert” on September 3, 2026. The single is accompanied by a highly visual music video directed by Jaro Koho and marks the beginning of a new album cycle as well as a significant step in the band’s ongoing sonic evolution.

According to the band, “Covert” is an introspective journey through change and the will to persevere in the face of adversity. The song explores themes of transformation and self-discovery, intertwining rich harmonies with expressive melodies. Royal Sorrow themselves describe, “Covert is a study in change and the desire to keep going, despite hardships. It’s a journey through fire where you become yourself. Change is never easy, but sometimes we must go through pain to grow into our truest form.”

With their acclaimed debut album “Innerdeeps,” Royal Sorrow quickly made a name for themselves within Europe’s progressive and nu-metal circles. Throughout 2025, the group established a strong live reputation, with performances at prominent festivals and shared stages with acts such as Leprous and Cemetery Skyline.

The campaign kicks off with a concert in Helsinki on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the On The Rocks club, where the band will co-headline together with Cold Night for Alligators. After that, they will join Einar Solberg’s (known from Leprous) solo European tour. The collaboration with Solberg underscores Royal Sorrow’s growing network within prog metal and opens up opportunities for the band to reach a wider audience.

This autumn’s tour also includes appearances at the genre’s two most respected festivals, Euroblast Festival in Cologne and ProgPower Europe in Baarlo, further emphasizing the band’s increasing impact and commitment to innovative metal music across national borders.

Royal Sorrow now consists of Markus Hentunen (vocals, guitar), Eero Maijala (bass), Tony Olsén (guitar), and Janne Mieskonen (drums). With this experienced quartet, the band continues to carve out their own path within progressive metal, where emotional depth and ambitious music-making meet.
