Numento, the renowned Finnish metal band known for their genre-hybrid style and theatrical approach, released their new single 'Folie à Deux' on October 17, 2026. The single is accompanied by a suggestive music video that immerses the viewer in a meticulously crafted film noir world, enhancing the song's dark narrative and rich soundscape.
'Folie à Deux' stands out as Numento's most dramatic and theatre-inspired work to date. The track is vividly influenced by black metal and dissonant harmonies, drawing inspiration from both real crime cases and the unsettling atmosphere of a distorted wedding waltz. The musical journey began when vocalist Katri H-A created a kantele melody, whose atmospheric tones run throughout the composition, giving the song its ominous and fateful mood.
The song's story centers on a tragic and disturbed love affair, where a shared delusion blurs the lines between truth and lies. Guitarist Aleksi Vehmassalo points out that the lyrics are delivered from the perspective of two voices, deepening the depiction of a toxic relationship built on control and denial. The psychological grip on those involved is so strong that it takes total self-surrender to break free. The result is a story of inevitable downfall, conveyed through intense lyrics and dramatic force.
The artistic vision of the music video extends the song's narrative through minimalist lighting and tension-filled direction, creating a distinct noir atmosphere. Katri H-A's expressive kantele playing is interwoven with an intimate dialogue between two characters, underlining the duality and psychological interplay at the song's core. The single's cover art also picks up on the dark, cinematic feel and maintains the cohesive expression between music and visuals.
'Folie à Deux' will also be featured on Numento's upcoming EP, scheduled for release before the end of 2026. The EP follows the band's earlier single this year, 'The Extortionist', along with an accompanying music video directed by Adán Mendoza. These releases, together with performances at, among others, Hellsinki Metal Festival, Sandstorm Metal Festival in Dubai, and Tallinn Music Week, have strengthened Numento's reputation as an expressive, genre-blurring act with grand storytelling.
