Musical Tribute to Copenhagen: Season Finale at Kyssetrappen, Ofelia Plads, August 27
The closing concert at Kyssetrappen by Ofelia Plads on Thursday, August 27, 2026, will be an emotional tribute to Copenhagen and the unique sense of community that has grown at this iconic spot by the quay. The event marks both the end of the season and the ten-year anniversary of Ofelia Plads. Eight musicians will gather this evening to jointly honor the city that has made Ofelia Plads a creative and cultural meeting point for a whole decade.
During the summer of 2026, Ofelia Plads has celebrated its anniversary year with a varied program: from large midsummer parties and site-specific performing arts to inspiring talks, quizzes, and introductions in connection with the concert series "Jazz på Pladsen." The season has broken attendance records and shown that Copenhageners appreciate shared, diverse cultural experiences in an open urban environment. Ahead of each activity, sing-alongs with a Copenhagen theme have played a central role, strengthening the connection between art, community, and city life.
Kyssetrappen’s Cross-Boundary Tradition
The finale at Kyssetrappen will be both the last classical event of the concert season and a vital tribute to Copenhagen’s musical heritage. The program consists of a crossover concert where Orkester Knust Sol serves as the core ensemble. Led by Mikkel B. Grevsen, together with Buster Jensen (known from Blaue Blume, Guldimund, and Brimheim) and arranger Christian Balvig (Copenhagen Phil, Efterklang, Hans Philip), they reinterpret the city's beloved classics in new ways.
The ensemble is joined by classical musicians Linnéa Villen (flute), Nina Schlemm (harp), and Mathias Friis-Hansen (percussion/timpani), who together with the rhythmic section unite the classical with the contemporary. The result is a lively meeting of genres, where traditional pieces and modern arrangements bring new life to songs about Copenhagen. Actors Sofie Torp and Kasper Leisner perform as soloists, with vocal contributions in arrangements by Christian Balvig, specially written for this evening.
The audience can expect a program of well-known and cherished Copenhagen songs in new, original renditions. The exact repertoire will be a surprise, but the focus will clearly be on melodies that capture the city’s pulse and life, reflecting the musical and cultural essence of Copenhagen.
The lineup on stage this evening is:
- Linnéa Villen: flute
- Nina Schlemm: harp
- Mathias Friis-Hansen: percussion/timpani
- Buster Jensen: bass clarinet, guitar
- Mikkel B. Grevsen: horn, trumpet
- Christian Balvig: arranger/synth
- Sofie Torp: vocalist/soloist
- Kasper Leisner: vocalist/soloist
The event is part of the concert series “Klassisk på Kyssetrappen,” which this year is also nominated for the award of “Stadens Bästa Gratisupplevelse”—recognizing the ambition to provide free, high-quality music to the entire public. The concert is made possible due to the collaboration between Jeudan and the Royal Danish Theatre through Foreningen Ofelia Plads. Free and open access for all remains a core value at the venue: excellent music without barriers.
Today's program begins with sing-along at 16:30, followed by a concert introduction at 16:45. The main concert starts at 17:00. Admission is free and no pre-registration is required, creating a genuinely inclusive public celebration by the waterfront.
With the season’s final concert on the floating stage, Ofelia Plads rounds off its anniversary with a fitting manifestation of the place’s first decade: a decade marked by openness, creativity, and joy. Together, artists and audience bid farewell to summer and look forward to future musical experiences at one of Copenhagen’s most beloved urban spots.
